HP AY513TX Review, Gaming With 2GB Graphics Editing Videos in Full HD without any issues, Heating Issues and More
I recently bought HP 15-AY513TX Laptop offline for little Video Editing and Document editing. I Bought the Laptop around 37,000 INR, which will be around 570$. I bought this laptop after my 3 year old Sony Vaio laptop has been failed to boot. It's motherboard has issues and It's hard to replace the motherboard since the availability of it is limited.
My Old laptop configuration was Core i5 3rd generation, 8GB DDR3 Ram, 500GB HDD, 1GB Raedon Graphics and Windows 10.
The Specification of HP 15-AY513TX includes
- Intel i3 Processor 6th Generation
- 8GB DDR4 Ram
- 2GB DDR3 Raedon 430 Graphics
- 1TB HDD (5400 rpm)
- DOS
The Package
The package was simple, it is really thin. It contains One laptop, battery ( Pre installed in the laptop itself - can be removed easily), charger with enough length.Installing Windows 10
Since it comes with DOS OS I have to install a new Windows freshly. Sine I have a Windows 10 with me I told the seller not to install any OS on the laptop. The Laptop is UEFI compatible so that you can install Windows 10 in UEFI, which will makes your laptop to boot faster than Non UEFI System.
Here is how you can install Windows 10 in any PC/Laptop in UEFI format for the first time.
After Installing OS I have to download whole drivers from HP Support website since no driver DVD is provided with the laptop.
Speed
Combining with Windows 10 a powerful 6th generation i3 processor and 2GB Graphics, 8GB DDR4 Ram the laptop is fast enough for daily tasks. It takes about 15 to 25 seconds to load Adobe after effects CC 2015 for the first time and 11 seconds for the second time. Most of the games now available in the market was playable with this configuration.Video Editing
It is capable of editing videos upto 1080p videos. And you can easily render the video in high resolution easily. The only limiting factor here is the HDD. If you are a serious video editor better choose a SSD Hard drive to render faster.
4K Capability
HP 15-AY513TX can play 4K videos smoothly. But Playing videos in 4K with VLC player is quite awkward. Because it stuck the video while playing it.
But PowerDVD 14 is free with this laptop. You can download the free PowerDVD from HP support page from the multimedia section. PowerDVD 14 plays all 4K Videos smoothly without any lags.
4K videos are also plays well in Windows Movie application which is coming with Windows 10 as a free software.
Since I didn't downloaded any software that edit 4K videos, the editing capability of 4K videos are still not known to me. If 4K editing is possible with HP 15 series I will update with details in future.
Battery Backup
The laptop comes with a good battery life. It is giving an average of 4 hours of battery life with moderate usage like browsing web, watching movies, streaming youtube videos etc. a detailed battery test will be uploaded in the near future.
Since most of the time I was in home I am using the laptop by connecting it to the AC Power supply after removing the battery from it. Because it will help the battery life span a lot more. You can try this by yourself because If you continuously charge and discharge your battery, its life will decrease drastically after one year.
Battery Charging
It will charge the laptop battery from 0 to 100 in less than 2.30 hrs.
Heating Issue
On normal usage like browsing, editing documents, Watching movies, streaming youtube videos the laptop looks really cool. Since the laptop is too cool and no hot air is coming out from the fan I though the fan is dead, but not it is super cool.
It is not that much hot even when I edit videos in Adobe After Effects. But it heats up when you play high end games and rendering videos. Even though it heats it will cool down to normal temperature after your work is completed.
Overall Experience
I love this laptop. Even though my old laptop is with i5 processor the performance of this i3 laptop is way better than it. I can edit videos in Full HD without any lag and heating issues. It gives me a good amount of battery back up while I am traveling with about 4 hours of battery life on average.
It also good for gaming, even though I will not recommend playing games on laptop.

ReplyDeleteYou will get more than 2.30 hrs for heavy usages like gaming and video rendering process. In case of matlab it will give around 4 hours of battery backup
Deletethanks a lot. Just one thing, is that enough fos an engg student?
ReplyDeleteIf your budget is around 37000 and not bothered about OEM Windows OS (Original), you can go for it. Since matlab doesn't require high end graphics card, you can either select 513tx or ay 552tu from HP. It also has 8GB Ram and i3 processor without dedicated graphics card.
